This year, Indonesian Ministry of Trade chose our studio to join the Designer Dispatch Service program, where we had the chance to help the local business units located on Lombok Island, West Nusa Tenggara. The program started with a selection process – we got to choose two business units that attract us, and we chose Mr Hartono from UD Mawar and Mr Raden Sukawati from Manfaat Nyiuh Daya, Prawira Village.
This program has enriched our experience and gave us a deeper insight on our local craft industry. With four trips to Lombok, we got to analize, respond, and design. Both businesses that we chose have different character and approach.
Lombok is an island located on the eastern part of Indonesia, with a natural beauty and friendly people. The government is trying their best organizing more projects and developing the area to improve the living quality. Through the DDS program, they started with the business units which involves the local craftsmen.
Throughout the program, we invited our two friends – Nady Azhry (video artist) and Dhanny Sanjaya (visual artist) to help us with documentation and presentation. We are hoping with their added skills, we can communicate our project better and reach more people to lend a helping hand, working together to improve local craftsmen around the country.
